Instant transfers
Moving money from Cash App to your bank on the standard schedule is free. An instant transfer costs between 0.5% and 2.5%, with a minimum of $0.25 to $1 and a maximum of $75. Cash App shows the exact rate when you make the transfer and does not publish how it picks a rate within that range, so the calculator shows the highest possible fee to be safe.
How to work out Cash App fees by hand
For a Business account, multiply the payment by 2.6% and add $0.15. For Tap to Pay, take 3% of the payment. Subtract the fee to get what lands in your Cash App balance. If you then move it instantly to your bank, Cash App charges another 0.5% to 2.5% of the amount moved and shows the exact figure before you confirm.
To work backwards from the amount you need, add $0.15 to it and divide by 0.974. To receive $250, ask for ($250 + $0.15) ÷ 0.974 = $256.83, rounded up to the cent.
Common mistakes
- Quoting 2.75%. Cash App's published business fee is 2.6% + $0.15, which works out to 2.75% only on a $100 payment.
- Forgetting the instant transfer. It is a second fee on top of the business fee.
- Selling through a personal account. Business features and the business fee apply to Cash App Business accounts; check the current terms before relying on personal-account payments for sales.
Personal vs. Business accounts
Cash App's business fee applies to payments received in a Cash App Business account, which is the account type meant for selling. Personal accounts are for paying friends and family. Cash App also lets eligible personal accounts mark incoming payments as earnings, and says it does not currently charge a fee for receiving them, but that can change, so check the app before relying on it.
Cash App vs. PayPal and Venmo
For a $100 business payment, Cash App costs $2.75, a Venmo business profile costs $2.00, and a PayPal Goods and Services payment costs $2.99. Instant transfers can change the picture, so compare the full cost including how you withdraw.
