    How Mercari's fee works

Mercari's 10% is charged on the item price and on shipping if the buyer pays for it. It applies to listings created or edited from January 6, 2025, when Mercari dropped the separate 2.9% + $0.50 payment processing fee. Buyers now pay a separate buyer protection fee at checkout, which does not come out of your payout.

    Getting your money

Direct Deposit to your bank is free. Instant Pay sends money to an eligible debit card right away for a flat $3 per cash-out, with a limit of $600 a month and one cash-out a day. If you sell several items, cashing out once a week costs $3 instead of $3 per item.

    Avoid the cancellation fee

If you cancel an order as the seller, Mercari charges 5% of the item price, up to $25. Keep your listings accurate and in stock to avoid it.

How to work out Mercari fees by hand

Add the item price and the shipping the buyer pays, then take 10% of the total. That is the whole selling fee; there is nothing else per sale. If you cash out with Instant Pay, add $3 for that cash-out. To get your profit, subtract the fee, what you paid for the item and the postage you paid if you offered free shipping.

For a $150 item with $12 buyer-paid shipping: 10% of $162 is $16.20, so you receive $145.80. If you cash out instantly after that sale alone, you receive $142.80.

    Common mistakes

    • Still counting the old processing fee. Many guides and spreadsheets still add 2.9% + $0.50, which Mercari removed in January 2025.
    • Ignoring the fee on shipping. When the buyer pays shipping, Mercari takes 10% of it too.
    • Using Instant Pay for every sale. At $3 a time, it adds up; Direct Deposit is free.
    • Cancelling orders. A seller cancellation costs 5% of the item price, up to $25.

    Mercari vs. other platforms

Mercari's 10% sits between Depop (no selling fee, about 4% to 5% in processing) and eBay (about 14% for most categories). The eBay fee calculator compares one item across eBay, Etsy, Depop, Mercari, Poshmark and Grailed. See also the Depop fee calculator.
