    PaymentVenmo feeYou receive
    $100 goods & services (personal)$2.99$97.01
    $100 to a business profile$2.00$98.00
    $100 by Tap to Pay$2.38$97.62
    $500 goods & services + instant transfer$14.95 + $8.49$476.56

To receive exactly $100, ask for $103.08 as a goods and services payment or $102.04 on a business profile.

How to work out Venmo fees by hand

For a goods and services payment to a personal account, multiply the amount by 2.99%. For a business profile, multiply by 1.9% and add $0.10. For Tap to Pay, multiply by 2.29% and add $0.09. Subtract the fee from the payment to get what you receive in Venmo. An instant transfer to your bank then takes 1.75% of the amount you move, at least $0.25 and at most $25.

To work backwards from the amount you need on a business profile, add $0.10 and divide by 0.981. To receive $250, ask for ($250 + $0.10) ÷ 0.981 = $254.95.

    Common mistakes

    • Asking buyers to pay as friends. It avoids the fee but removes purchase protection for both sides on a sale.
    • Forgetting the instant transfer fee. On large payouts it can cost almost as much as the payment fee.
    • Using a personal account for a regular business. A business profile is cheaper per payment and keeps records separate.

Personal goods & services vs. business profile

A business profile is cheaper per payment (1.9% + $0.10 against 2.99%), and on a $100 payment saves about a dollar. It also keeps your selling separate from personal payments. If you sell often, a business profile usually pays for itself. Payments marked as goods and services on a personal account carry Venmo's purchase protection for eligible transactions, which is why buyers prefer them.

    Instant transfers

Standard transfers to your bank are free. Instant transfers cost 1.75% of the amount you move, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25. On a $500 payout that is $8.49, so if you can wait a day or two, standard transfer keeps more of the sale.

Venmo vs. PayPal and Cash App

Venmo's 2.99% goods and services fee matches PayPal's Goods and Services rate. Business payments are cheapest on Venmo at 1.9% + $0.10, compared with 2.6% + $0.15 on Cash App Business. For PayPal invoices and checkout, see the PayPal fee calculator.
